INSTRUCTOR GALLERY - Ralph Lee Hopkins

Ralph Lee Hopkins published his first Arizona Highways photo while still a geology graduate student at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. He combined his passions for geology and photography in the creation of his guidebooks Hiking the Southwest's Geology and Hiking Colorado's Geology. His photos have been featured in a number of books by National Geographic and also appear regularly in magazines including Arizona Highways, Outdoor Photographer, New Mexico, Outside, and Smithsonian. While a medium and large format photographer for many years, he has made the transition to digital cameras and enjoys teaching both film and digital formats. In 1990, he was a photographer on a U.S. Geological Survey of the Colorado River, duplicating the voyage and photographs taken by the 1890 Stanton Expedition.
