NEWSLETTER

March 8, 2005

The clouds have finally parted, the sun has begun to shine and the temperatures are starting to creep back up again here in Arizona. Today's reports indicate that the best places to go for wildflowers are Organ Pipe National Monument and the Pipeline Trail near Lake Pleasant. There are also some nice stretches of flowers in the White Tank Mountains but the Superstition wildflower bloom has been delayed by all our recent cool weather. Those of you registered for the one-day wildflower workshops this weekend, you should be in for a fantastic time! The photographer has been out scouting all week to make sure you get the best experience possible, and will take you to prime locations for flowers and for sunset photos.

GETTING THIS NEWSLETTER FOR THE FIRST TIME?
We've just completed a large upload to our database of people who showed interest in our organization thanks to some advertising conducted in 2004. If you are receiving this email for the first time, you may have requested information about our group through Sunset magazine, Midwest Living , vacationfun.com or have simply found the newsletter link on our website. However you found us, we hope you will find this newsletter helpful and we welcome you aboard!

WORKSHOP ITINERARIES
There are several itineraries that have been newly posted on our website, including (click on the name to be taken to the page) :

Coastal Redwoods (May 20-24)

Nikon - Tetons Digital workshop (June 22-26)

Colorado Wildflowers (July 21-25)

Arches of the Southwest (Sept. 12-16)

and Colorado Aspen Glow (Sept. 20-24)

Links to all of the itineraries can be found on our Photo Workshops page .

We're still working on a couple of them with the photographers, so if you don't see one for a workshop you're interested in, please let us know and we will have the photographer contact you directly.

NAME THE NEWSLETTER CONTEST
Our current newsletter name is a bit of a mouthful, and we are looking for a change. We thought "why not put our participants' creative talents to the test?" So here we are, asking you to submit no more than 3 suggestions to our "Name the Newsletter" contest. The deadline for submissions is March 31 and our Board of Directors, staff and volunteers will judge entries at our April meeting. The winning name will be announced in May. THE WINNER WILL RECEIVE AN ITEM FROM THE ARIZONA HIGHWAYS GIFT SHOP. Put your thinking caps on and let us know what you come up with!

FEMALE-ORIENTED WORKSHOP?

One of our participants brought up the idea of having a workshop designed specifically for women. Is she a voice in the wilderness, or are others among you interested in a female-only or female-oriented workshop? If so, what elements would you like to have emphasized on the trip that we don't already include? We are currently working on our 2006 schedule, so please email your thoughts as soon as possible.

FUN FACT: Looking at registrations through the end of June, women comprise 33% of participants on our longer workshops and 50% of those on the weekend workshops.

MORE PARTICIPANT WEBSITES

One of the great things about working here is that we get to see a lot of outstanding photographs from our participants, and can feel like we've played some small role in their artistic development. Here are several more sites for you to enjoy:
