NEWSLETTER
September 28,
2005
Greetings from Phoenix. I hope those of you impacted by hurricanes
Katrina and Rita are safe and sound, and that your relatives, homes,
pets, and family photographs made it through unscathed, also. May
this horrible storm season end before we loop back around the alphabet!
You haven't heard from me in a while because we've been busy putting
the final touches on both our workshop schedule and brochure. They
are now complete, and we'd like to give you a sneak preview.

arrange to send you the information as it becomes available.
PARTICIPANT PHOTOS
I'd like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who's submitted
photos to us, both this year and in the past. It's terrific to see
what great results you're having on the trips, and we love to show
off the images where and when we can. Those people who submitted
slides this year can expect to get their photos back within a few
weeks. Thanks to the number of images submitted we will be doing
a massive update to the Participant Gallery on the website, and
hope for a November launch. In the meantime, keep an eye out for
the brochure in late October, which will feature a centerfold of
participants' work.
If you'd like to download our submission guidelines, you can do
so here:

Keep up the great work and keep sending those photographs!
KARTCHNER CAVERNS SPECIAL EVENT
We're excited to announce that we've joined with the Arizona State
Parks Foundation to help bring you a very special event. On Saturday,
November 5 from 10am to 4pm, Kartchner Caverns State Park will be
open for "Bat Day.” Your ticket purchase of $150 will
provide an "at your own pace" viewing of the caverns with
unprecedented access to the Rotunda/Throne Room and the Big Room.
The lights will be on, flash photography will be allowed, and for
the first time ever tripods will also be allowed in the caverns.
As a result, photographers will have the most creative control ever
possible in this location, making it a unique opportunity. One stipulation
is that all photos taken must be for private use only.
We've arranged to have noted cavern photographer David Elms give
a presentation at 10am in the Visitor's Center theatre, where he'll
give you tips and tricks on how best to maximize the photographic
potential of your cavern experience. Once in the caverns, several
of our volunteers will be available to help answer your questions
about composition, exposure and how to craft a good photograph.
For more information about the event and to register, please visit:

Proceeds benefit the Arizona State Parks and Arizona Diamondbacks
Foundations.

CALL FOR ENTRIES - PHIPPEN MUSEUM, Prescott, Arizona
We've been asked to let you know that the Phippen Museum in Prescott,
Arizona is mounting its first-ever juried photography exhibit, FRESH
EYES opening January 14 and running through April 15, 2006.
According to Collections Manager Helena Howell, they are seeking
entries in both black and white and color, produced by all photographic
techniques and equipment. As the museum’s first photographic
competition and exhibition, FRESH EYES is designed to showcase the
vision of largely unknown and emerging photographic artists, and
to explore their views of the American West in the two primary categories
of (1) the natural world, and (2) the manmade world. Awards will
be made in these categories. Jurors will include: professional photographer
Chris Marchetti, fine art photographer George Lewis, and Karen Churchill,
Administrator at NAU's Prescott Campus.
Photographers of all levels of expertise are invited to submit their
applications by December 1, 2005. There is a small fee to enter.
You can download the application form from the museum’s website:
