NEWSLETTER
August 5, 2005
Hello again everyone. I hope you're having a nice summer. We have
some exciting news to share this month. We'd like to congratulate
participant EJ Simpson on placing 5th in the most recent National
Parks Photo Contest. Apparently there were 11,000 entries sent in
this year, and we're quite pleased EJ did so well with an image
taken on one of our workshops. To see this year's winning shots,
click on "Current Contest Winners" on the right side of
this page:

Below are some other participant images for you to enjoy.

Dermot Conlan took a photo of a rainbow over Mt. Hayden on our Stormlight
(now called Summer Storms) workshop a few years ago. You can see
it and some of his other work at:

Former participant and current volunteer Colleen Miniuk-Sperry has
a great website to check out, also:

Mister Anderson's website is http://www.greenerthangreen.com/.
We couldn't resist sharing this site because Peter has a few shots
of Monument Valley smushed in amongst the surreal British landscapes
he likes to shoot. Be warned, there are a few photos containing
adult language. But there's also the best shot of a Goulding's mug
Michelle and I have ever seen!
TIPS FROM THE PROS
I think we've all experienced getting to a prime location when the
light is absolutely perfect, only to miss the shot because we're
struggling with our gear. Photographer Jerry Sieve offers the following
advice to all would-be photographers:
"KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT. Without good knowledge of your equipment
you will have a hard time responding to the fast changing lighting
and atmospheric conditions found in nature. Get to know your camera
at home and get to know nature in the field!"
Seems like a no-brainer, but especially with so many people transitioning
from film to digital, it's a lesson worth repeating.
