NEWSLETTER

September 28 , 2007

Well our fall season has begun in earnest. Our fifth trip of the month ends tomorrow and we're looking forward to six more in October. Needless to say we're busy little bees down here right now! But we still managed to carve out some time to bring you a few announcements.

POST WORKSHOP CRITIQUES
In an effort to make your workshop experience as complete and helpful as possible, we've recently developed a system for photographers to provide post-workshop comments about a few of your images. During your workshop, your escort will give you a handout that contains information on what website to go to, how to post the images and your password to access the site. When the workshop ends you'll be able to go through your photos at your leisure and post the ones you like best or ones you want help with. In a separate folder you'll be able to share even more photos with fellow participants. We hope you'll all take advantage of this brand-new system to get the most out of your workshop education. Feel free to ask me or your workshop escorts if you need help loading your photos.

ARIZONA HIGHWAYS "PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDE" BOOK
In the early part of next year, you can expect to see an exciting new book hit the bookstands. It's called "Arizona Highways Photography Guide: How & Where to Make Great Photographs." This book combines information about photography techniques with specific information about photographing key locations in Arizona. The book will retail for $24.95, but we're happy to announce that it will be given to everyone who attends one of our long workshops in 2008. As always, we try to give you the best educational experience possible, and hope the guide will prove useful to you on your road to photographic excellence.

EMAILING LARGE PHOTO FILES
Hopefully by now most of you realize that sending large emails is a no-no. I had my Inbox filled up last month by someone who wanted to share too many big photo files with me for the brochure, which of course made other emails bounce. How big a file is TOO big to send? It depends on the receiver's preference, and sometimes on their mail server's settings, but I personally don't want to get files much over 3MB, since our administrator has set limits on our Inbox size. Other people cringe if they get files over 1 or 2MB.

Enter the company called "You Send It". We hear a lot of people are using their free upload service. How it works is that you upload your photo(s) to their site, and they send an email telling the recipient how to retrieve the file(s). This is the way several pros I know are sending photos to magazines or stock agencies. If you want to try it for yourself, visit here:

2008 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE SNEAK PEEK
I'm still racing to put the finishing touches on the 2008 schedule, and we're quite busy right now making hotel accommodations, booking tours and all the other fine details that go into making the workshops run. But I did promise you a sneak peek at next year's schedule and wanted to tantalize you with a few of our upcoming trips. Here's what you can look forward to:

* A 5-day workshop on Lake Powell with Gary Ladd, using houseboats for transport

* A workshop at the White Stallion Dude Ranch in Tucson, photographing cowboys, cowgirls, rodeos, team penning and much more

* Two workshops in Havasupai, one in the spring and one in the fall

* A trip to the Coastal Redwoods in California, with side visits to the ocean

* Two exciting Alaska workshops with David Muench, one in Denali and one exploring the Inside Passage of Glacier Bay, Juneau and Sitka

* A fall color workshop in Grand Tetons with local expert Henry Holdsworth

* An exclusive large-format only trip to Monument Valley with LeRoy DeJolie

*Returning instructor Edward McCain will take a group to the Chiricahua Mountains in southeastern Arizona for the height of fall color

* New instructor Tom Vezo will take a group to Bosque del Apache and White Sands National Monument. Check out Tom's outstanding website: http://www.tomvezo.com/

* A new Photoshop Seminar with Steve Burger at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

We can't give out any further details until all our plans are in place, but hope this whets your appetite. Keep an eye out starting late next month for the new trips to be posted on the website. The brochure should be out in late October to early November.

SHARING PHOTOS
Last, but certainly not least this month, we wanted you to see a couple of websites by two terrific photographers. Please have a look when you get a chance.
