Howdy, folks. We hope you’re staying cool and enjoying your summer wherever you may live. The temperature in Arizona is in the triple digits again, but while it may be hot now, it’s usually ideal in the fall and winter. Soon enough it will be time to look forward to the cool fall and plan your travel. We have some great workshops scheduled then, and will tell you more about what’s coming up momentarily.
Here’s one last reminder that we’re if you’d like to submit photos for consideration in our 2009 brochure you will need to mail your submissions in the next few weeks. The submission form with our guidelines can be found on our website here:

FALL WORKSHOPS
If you haven’t already planned a fall workshop with us you better hurry, we just sold out another two workshops yesterday. All of our September workshops are now sold out, and there are only 2 spaces left on the “Sedona Fall Photoshop Seminar” (October 24-27), 3 spaces left on LeRoy DeJolie’s “Arches of the Southwest” workshop (October 5-9) and just 1 space left on Gary Ladd’s “Preposterous Landscapes” workshop (October 18-23).
Here’s a link to our Calendar, which will show you what’s still available:

We also just posted a number of weekend workshops on that page in case you’re interested.
The “Chiricahuas in Autumn” workshop was moved by a day and is now running November 3-7, 2008. The Chiricahuas are one of my favorite places in Arizona, are not often visited and yet are stunningly beautiful. The area boasts some of Arizona’s most dramatic rock formations and most stunning displays of fall color. If you want to see an unspoiled part of Arizona I highly recommend this workshop. You can see some photos from the Chiricahuas on the description page, as well as in instructor Edward McCain’s bio page, which are here:

TOM VEZO
We are sad to announce that Tom Vezo passed away a little over a week ago. Tom was a well-respected bird photographer, did a lot of outstanding work with Arizona Highways magazine and was a well-respected member of the photographic community here in Arizona. Tom was scheduled to lead our workshop to Bosque del Apache later in the year, and we are still working to replace him. He leaves hard shoes to fill.
A note from his family to Arizona Highways says it best:
“Tom inspired many with his passion for wildlife and his iconic images of nature's splendor. Not just content to compose a scene in the frame of his camera, Tom strove to celebrate the beauty of a creature by capturing intimate portraits of wildlife in native habitat as well as photographs of complex and fascinating behavior.
Seeing the beauty of the natural world through his lens not only exposed us to breathtaking landscape imagery, but often garnered insight into the lives birds and mammals rarely before seen.”
His website is still up for those who would like to see his photos: http://www.tomvezo.com/
WORLD WIDE MOMENT – AUGUST 8TH
A lot of photographers we know are going to be taking part in the “World Wide Moment” in a few days. The concept is for people all over the world to take a photograph simultaneously and then post their photos online. The moment’s purpose is to demonstrate peace on earth and to create a means for people in different countries to share photos and stories.
The moment selected is August 8th, 2008 at 8 minutes and 8 seconds after midnight GMT. Yes, that’s 08.08.08 at 08:08+08hrGMT. In Phoenix the moment corresponds to August 7, 2008 at 5:08PM, and in New York it corresponds to August 7, 2008 at 8:08PM, and so on. This is open to all photographers, amateur and professional, using any kind of equipment.
After the photographs are taken you can post them with the story behind it on the website
http://www.worldwidemoment.org/. Their goal is to display the photographs and stories for everyone to see in order to discuss and learn from this worldwide experience.
If you need help finding the proper moment, visit this terrific site to help you out:
http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/meeting.html
There’s also a countdown clock on the World Wide Moment website if you still need to figure out what time to take your photo.
Mark your calendars and start planning your special moment, it’s only about a week away!
