WEEKEND WORKSHOP - CHIHULY: The Nature of Glass

Chihuly: The Nature of Glass
May 21-22

with Peter Ensenberger and Jeff Kida, Arizona Highways Photography Editors

Cost: $165
Location: Desert Botanical Garden

Imagine... the artistry of Dale Chihuly and the beauty of Desert Botanical Garden, all captured by you and your camera.

© Laura MontoyaChihuly is known worldwide for his glass sculptures and glass art pieces. He has many outdoor exhibitions and museum showings in progress and this is Chihuly's first installation entirely within a desert garden environment. Don't miss the chance to experience the wonderful and vibrant colored glass sculptures throughout Desert Botanical Garden on a special two-day photo workshop!

Workshop Itinerary

Thursday, May 21: 6-8 p.m.
Location: Arizona Highways office
2039 W. Lewis Ave. Phoenix, AZ

Our instructors will show some of their photographs from the Chihuly exhibit and talk about how they achieved their beautiful photos. We’ll take a sandwich order, so these will be available the next evening when the workshop begins. Cameras are not necessary this evening, unless you have questions about them in particular.

Friday, May 22: 5-10 p.m.
Location: Desert Botanical Garden
1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ

We will meet at the Desert Botanical Garden for a short session in the learning center prior to walking to the exhibits. There will be signs and trip leaders to direct you to the learning center. We expect to begin at 5 p.m, eat our sandwiches and listen to Jeff and Pete review what they had discussed the prior evening.

After this short session, we'll separate into two groups of 10, one going with Pete and the other will go with Jeff. About midway throughout the evening, the groups will switch instructors.

There will be some great evening light at this time because the sun is expected to set around 7 p.m. As the afternoon transitions to dusk, the exhibits are illuminated with lights and the location becomes quite different, yet still very beautiful to photograph. We will be afforded the opportunity to photograph in the Garden after it closes at 9 p.m.

A post-workshop critique will be offered online so that the instructors can review your images. Pete and Jeff feel that the best use of the time on site at Desert Botanical Garden should be used to create images.

Come and join us for a truly unforgettable experience as you receive expert advice from Arizona Highways Director of Photography, Peter Ensenberger and Arizona Highways Photography Editor, Jeff Kida. Space is limited, so call early to reserve your place in this unique workshop! Then, enter your best photos from the workshop in a photography contest! Visit arizonahighways.com for more details.

“The artist permits and encourages photography of the artwork in this exhibition for educational and non-commercial use only.”
