Photography is expensive, so why not let your camera pay its way? Former Arizona Highways Picture Editor J. Peter Mortimer can show you how. Peter has been buying and selling photographs for over 25 years. He's shot everything from weddings and family portraits to news assignments for publications like Time, the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times. Using his many years of experience as a guide, he'll give you tips on how you can put your creative ideas to work!

Held at the magazine in a small seminar setting, Peter will tell you how to market your pictures "in your own backyard." While one key to success is self-motivation, other topics will include:

  • What to charge
  • Invoicing
  • Photo-releases
  • General photo legalities
  • Necessary equipment
  • Photo agencies and
  • Creative sales ideas

Be sure to bring up to five samples of your photos, greeting cards or anything else you need help with. Your camera and camera manual are also welcome.

One participant said of this workshop, "Great stories of 'real world' experience, with plenty of tips and advice."

TIP: Shoot vertical compositions as well as horizontal ones. The vertical frame has a natural dynamic tension and can add drama to the photograph. For editorial uses vertical photographs are better suited to full pages and front covers. - Richard Maack
