PHOTO WORKSHOP - Colorado Aspen Glow

with Jim Steinberg
September 20- 24, 2005
Cost: $1,195

Day One

  • We will meet in the conference room at Ouray, Colorado's "Victorian Inn" at 5:30pm for an orientation and slide lecture by photographer Jim Steinberg. Rooms are blocked for you at the Victorian Inn, but are your responsibility to pay for. You may stay elsewhere in Ouray or Ridgeway if you wish.

Days Two through Four

  • We will leave by 7am and spend the mornings at such locations as the Dallas Divide, Miller’s Mesa, Owl Creek Pass (with its view of Chimney Rock) and will visit remnants of old mining towns.
  • We will return to town for lunch and to drop off film for processing.
  • Afternoons will be spent critiquing the prior day's work and in classroom sessions. Late afternoon light will find us capturing reflections of Red Mountain in Crystal Lake, sunsets in the surrounding area as well as mining ruins.

Day Five

  • Leave at 7:00 a.m. traveling up to the top of Imogene Pass at 13,000 feet, stopping to absorb the breathtaking vista.
  • Continue on down the other side, stopping at the remains of the Tomboy Mine then on to lunch in Telluride at the Smuggler’s Cove.
  • Return to Ouray via the Last Dollar Road, with its phenomenal groves of aspens.
  • After dinner, Jim will present a slide-show, set to music, of the best work by each participant this week. Prizes will be awarded in various categories!
  • The workshop ends after this evening's session.

Includes:

  • Photographic instruction
  • Jeep tours within the Ouray area
  • Lunches and breakfast snacks
  • Permits and entrance fees
Jim Steinberg

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS: Polarizing filters will help reduce sheen on leaves, and will also help reduce hazy skies at this altitude. A reflector can help inject light into dim groves of trees, as appropriate.

"This (workshop) opened my eyes to the relationships of light, form and composition." - Participant Harry Galliver Register Now
