PHOTO WORKSHOP - Northern Arizona Ghost Towns

with Richard Maack

October 28 - 30, 2005
Cost: $795

Halloween weekend is the perfect time to visit Arizona’s ghost towns, and we’ll take a haunting jaunt through several of them. The eccentric and eclectic Jerome, not quite yet ready to admit its ghost town status, will inspire you as you photograph old door frames and mining ruins here. Towns like Cleator, Crown King and Bumble Bee will also give you plenty of eerie reminders of the past to photograph. But the highlight of the trip will be Wickenburg’s Vulture Mine.

Miners left behind books, shirts, sewing machines and mining equipment in its extensive ruins. The traces of their lives are now only memories frozen in time. But what was that you just heard? A creaking floorboard or a ghost come to protect its haunt? Whether or not you believe in ghosts, you’ll have to admit these places are filled with the spirit of the Old West and the adventurous souls who settled it.
