Summer monsoons
bring a host of unpredictable and exciting photographic opportunities
to the Grand Canyon. On a clear day, vistas from Cape Royal,
Point Imperial and the North Rim's other spectacular viewpoints
can't be beat. But when piercing blue skies become filled
with towering cloud pillars
and the common features of the canyon are suddenly enveloped
in a weaving cloak of fog, the chance to craft one-of-a-kind
photographs improves. This time of year is generally one of
filtered light and fleeting rainbows, and a variety of shooting
situations should present themselves as we pursue what we
hope will be constantly changing stormlight. We'll learn to
filter for the varied situations that present themselves,
from deep blue shadows to direct sunlight on the canyon walls.
Join us for this chance of a lifetime and capture a storm
in one of the most extraordinary settings on earth.
SPECIAL
CONSIDERATIONS
Due to the unpredictability of the weather, the daily schedule
of this workshop is subject to change, so that we can take
full advantage of dramatic storms and light. We'll likely
be making early pre-dawn trips every morning and be out past
sunset each evening, so rest will become increasingly important
for a successful photographic experience. We urge everyone
to pace themselves and take naps at midday. We'll also be
at 8,000-plus feet in elevation, so taking time to adjust
to the environment is important. Remember that at such elevations,
staying hydrated is critical!
