August 6 - 10, 2005
Cost: $1,575
Day One
* We'll leave promptly
at 8am from Arizona Highways. The ride to the Rim is long,
but is the perfect time to ask the photographer about photographic
techniques.
* Lunch will be
at Cameron Trading Post.
* We'll arrive at
the Lodge about 6pm, check-in and meet to discuss current
weather conditions. If conditions are right we'll photograph
sunset at Transept Trail.
Day Two
* Our sunrise shoot
will be in the Saddle Mountain Wilderness Area. This morning
will involve only short walks so you can acclimate to the
altitude.
* After an early
lunch at the Lodge, the photographer will give a slide show
presentation.
* At about 3pm we'll
head to Cape Royal, a fantastic spot for sunsets. With luck
we’ll see evening storm clouds create intriguing light
patterns in the canyon below.
* We'll have box
dinners on location at this remote section of the Canyon before
returning to the Lodge.
Day Three
* Sunrise will find us photographing near the North Kaibab
Trailhead. We’ll descend a mile into the Canyon to photograph
piñon pines clinging to the summits of Coconino rock
spires. Though not a difficult hike, this is a high-elevation
trail, so go slow and take water!
* At sunset we'll
be at Point Imperial. If the weather cooperates, we'll see
thunderheads to the southeast catching the last rosy light
of day.
Day Four
* This morning we'll return to Cape Royal. Because of the
distance involved, we’ll rise an hour and a half before
sunrise and eat on the bus. Our goal is to capture the dawn
illumination and cross lighting at Angel’s Window.
* After lunch at
the Lodge, we'll have a short rest period.
* We'll return to
Point Imperial for sunset. Having scouted this location earlier,
we return in hopes of capturing optimum light at this outstanding
location.
Day Five
* We'll photograph sunrise at Bright Angel Point, then check
out of the Lodge and board the bus for the return to Phoenix.
Hopefully, our film will be exposed with memorable masterpieces
and we'll travel home with shared memories and great new friends!
