PHOTO WORKSHOP - Escalante & Bryce: For Active Photographers

Kerrick Jameswith

Kerrick James
April 23 - 28, 2006
Cost: $2,195

Join our adventurous group on the scenic and seldom traveled backroads of Utah's Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Awaiting us on our journey are the multi-colored cliffs of the Grand Staircase, as well as the intricate redrock canyons of the Participant Mary DooEscalante River drainage. This monument encompasses approximately 1.7 million acres of pristine wilderness, and the remoteness of its many attractions is one of its virtues. Photographic opportunities will abound, but be aware that to get to some of the best spots requires a fair amount of travel time and hiking.Kerrick James

At the beginning of your journey you'll photograph spectacular Grosvenor Arch and Willis Narrows before capturing sunset light in nearby Kodachrome Basin, where you'll discover many colorful formations and unusual spires. Kerrick JamesTravelling down Hole-In-The-Rock Road, you'll hike into the aptly named "Peek-A-Boo" and "Spooky" slot canyons. These constricted and labyrinthian canyons have been carved through streaked Navajo sandstone, Participant Morris Swartzand the voluptuous canyon walls reflect an unearthly glow when light enters the twisting passageways at certain angles. Side-trips to Calf Creek Falls, the "Devil's Garden" and other areas with unique and unusual rock formations will also be likely.  In Bryce, you'll hike into the canyon to photograph the glowing red rock columns from below. This workshop is considered more strenuous than our typical workshops because you’ll often photograph in locations that require hikes of several miles, but your efforts will be well worth it. The price of this workshop is all-inclusive, and covers allJack Jordan transportation, lodging, meals and outfitters once the workshop begins.

“The energy level and enthusiasm of Kerrick James are infectious. He put in a lot of extra effort to make sure we got to all the right locations at the right times. I would highly recommend taking a workshop from him.”
