PHOTO WORKSHOP -  Arches of the Southwest

with LeRoy DeJolie
September 12 - 16, 2007
Cost: $1,875

Mark LarsonHaving grown up on the Navajo Reservation, LeRoy DeJolie has a particular affinity for the Southwest’s wild desert lands. Sandstone arches, whether small and delicate or large and ostentatious are a favorite subject for him, and seeking them out is a favorite pastime. There are few better places to find such arches than in Canyonlands and Arches national parks. And there is no better instructor to take you there than LeRoy, who will inspire you with his love for the land and deep passion for photography, as he guides you to numerous picturesque locations.

Mark LarsonOur first spectacular photos will be made in Arches National Park, which contains the largest concentration of natural stone arches in the world. Marveling at the scenery around us, we'll photograph North, South, Turret and Delicate arches, with a few more locations thrown in for good measure.

In Dead Horse Point State Park we'll enjoy a dramatic overlook on the Colorado River with views of the La Sal Mountains and Canyonlands National Park in the distance. Then it's on to Canyonlands itself, where we'll see Mesa Arch, the Green River Overlook and Grand View Point Overlook in the "Islands in the Sky" district.

Jeff WilliamsThis exciting workshop should be a treat for lovers of the arches, spires, balanced rocks and other formations that make the Southwest unique. Erosion and weathering are two of the dynamic forces that have sculpted these photogenic treasures, and we intend to visit as many of them as possible during our stay in the area.  The workshop will be quite physically demanding in terms of carrying packs up steep inclines on what can be very slippery rocks. People should have very good hiking boots with good soles to minimize slips and falls.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
The area is dry with little potable water available. Be sure to carry plenty of water and most importantly DRINK IT.

Rooms on the evening of September 11 are booked and paid for in Grand Junction so you can fly in early. Rooms the evening of the 16th are not reserved and are the responsibility of the participant.
