with Jim Steinberg
September 20 - 24, 2007
Cost: $1,725
September 19: Rooms are paid for in Montrose, Colorado this evening, enabling you to fly or drive into town in advance of the workshop.
Day
One
- We will start out early from our hotel in Montrose, making our way south to the Ouray area. Likely stops today will be at Owl Creek Pass
(with its view of Chimney Rock) and the East Dallas Creek area.
- Jim does an outstanding job with critiques, giving pointers on how to improve your images and what's already good in them. He will conduct the first of several critiques today, and will also present a slideshow of his own work.
Days Two
and Three
- We will leave by 7am and spend the mornings at such locations
as the Dallas Divide, Miller’s Mesa, and will visit remnants
of old mining towns.
- We will return to town for lunch.
- Afternoons will be spent critiquing the prior day's work
for digital users and in classroom sessions. Late afternoon light will find
us capturing reflections of Red Mountain in Crystal Lake,
sunsets in the surrounding area as well as mining ruins.
Day Four
- Leave at 7am traveling up to the top of Imogene
Pass at 13,000 feet, stopping to absorb the breathtaking
vista.
- Continue on down the other side, stopping at the remains
of the Tomboy Mine then on to lunch in Telluride at the
Smuggler’s Cove.
- Return to Ouray via the Last Dollar Road, with its phenomenal
groves of aspens.
- After dinner, Jim will present a slide-show, set to music,
of the best work by each participant this week. Prizes will
be awarded in various categories!
Day Five
- More photography this morning as we savor our last day among the aspens.
- We'll make our way back to Montrose for lunch and to say our goodbyes.

SPECIAL
EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS: Polarizing filters will help
reduce sheen on leaves, and will also help reduce hazy skies
at this altitude. A reflector can help inject light into dim
groves of trees, as appropriate.

relationships of light, form and
composition." - Participant Harry Galliver
