Is this a photo WORKSHOP or photo TOUR?
Unlike most of our trips, this really is more of a photo tour. There will not be any critique sessions, although digital photographers can feel free to have Kerrick review their work in the field and ask for tips on composition and exposure.
What will the photographer's roll be during the cruise?
As guest lecturer, Kerrick
will be giving two presentations during the trip, showing you what you can expect to encounter, and offering tips on what constitutes effective composition. Besides his valuable tips on Travel
Photography he will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. There will be some handouts on lighting, composition, etc. It is the creative
process on how to best capture the spirit of the land and
sea that will take precedence over technical aspects of
camera function. However, IF YOU BRING YOUR CAMERA MANUAL Kerrick may be able to help you with certain technical questions, as well.
What should we bring as far as cameras, lenses, etc?
You can expect opportunities for close-ups (like seashells), wildlife very close and at a distance (like whales and sea birds), landscapes and seascapes, etc. Kerrick recommends bringing lenses from 14 to 300mm. This is for 35mm film format, but he is bringing the rough digital equivalents as well. A light tripod could be useful, though might not be needed. If you register, a more extensive Equipment List will be sent to you before the trip begins.
Will there be a PC or notebook available for me to use onboard?
There aren't any PC workstations on board, so bring your own storage device or laptop.
Any recommendations on clothing?
Bring shorts, light
pants, light hiking/walking shoes, water shoes, a light jacket
and/or windbreaker. Sunscreen is a must, plus wet/dry
clothes you can wear in a small boat or in the sit on top
kayaks.
