TENTATIVE ITINERARY
Day One
- We leave Phoenix promptly at 8am, so be sure to be at the hotel at 7:30am to load gear.
- On the drive to Chinle we'll make stops for lunch and may stop to photograph at a location of the photographer's choosing.
- The late afternoon and sunset will be spent at the north rim of Canyon de Chelly, overlooking the canyon's meandering depths.
Day Two
- We'll rise early to capture early morning sweet light illuminating the Ventana Fingers.
- Portrait sessions will be from approximately 9am-2pm every day. Among other opportunities, we'll photograph a local blacksmith in the light-streaked interiors and exteriors of a local barn.
- Sunset finds us in the nearby sand dunes photographing a sheep drive.
Day Three
- In the early morning we'll spend time in the rolling badlands of the Chinle Basin, photographing its striated sandstone formations.
- Following breakfast we'll enjoy a full day tour of Canyons de Chelly and del Muerto. We'll have some Navajo children along to pose in front of the ruins and in other traditional Navajo settings.
Day Four
- Today's subject for early morning light will be gypsum pedestals and a Navajo rug weaver.
- Afternoon will find us photographing a jeweler in a traditional setting.
- Sunset will be from the Spider Rock overlook, capturing this incredible monolith as it casts a long shadow against the canyon walls.
Day Five
- After a sunrise session photographing a horse drive, we'll check out and travel to Hubbell's Trading Post in Ganado for a brief tour.
- Coalmine Canyon may beckon us if there is time.
- The workshop gets back to Phoenix in the early evening.
