July 17 - 21, 2007
Cost: $1,895
July 16: We have blocked rooms in Port Angeles for this evening and suggest you drive in or take a flight from Seattle. If we gather enough people together Jim will conduct a get-acquainted party this evening.
DAY ONE
- We'll explore the expansive lavender fields in the Sequim area, followed by a visit to the Dungeness Spit, the longest natural sand spit in the US.
- In the afternoon we'll wander the crafts fair in Sequim photographing people, etc.
- Return to the lavender fields for sunset.
- Jim will conduct a critique of your past work today, as well as presenting some of his own photographs.
DAY TWO
- Travel to the Hoh Rain forest - about a 2 hour drive from Port Angeles. Spend the day photographing in a rare temperate rain forest dominated by tall Western Hemlock and the stately Douglas Fir. The day will provide ample opportunities to capture the abundant and rich plant communities so rarely found in North America.
- Return to Port Angeles for dinner.
DAY THREE
- At over 5,000 feet high, Hurricane Ridge provides for grand vistas, wildflowers, and great early morning potential for seeing wildlife.
- In the late afternoon we'll visit the tidal pools of the Salt Creek Recreation Area.
DAY FOUR
- Enjoy a scenic 44 mile drive around the shores of Lake Crescent to the Sol Duc Hot Springs area. We will photograph along the way, stopping first at Marymere Falls, then have an easy 1.5 mile hike back to Sol Duc falls. More scenic splendor and wildflowers to fill the eye and fire the imagination.
Sunset at Second Beach, just south of La Push. It's an easy 3/4 mile walk along a boardwalk to the beach. Dinner in Forks or La Push. Back late!!
DAY FIVE
- We will end our week with a return trip to Sequim at the height of the lavender festival. The workshop ends after lunch so people can catch flights home.
