PHOTO WORKSHOP - Horses and Cowboys

Linda Franklinwith Jeff Kida
April 29 - May 3, 2008
Cost: $1,995

Day One

  • We'll meet at noon for lunch at the ranch. Our volunteer escorts will help arrange your transportation from the Tucson Airport.
  • After lunch, we'll get a brief tour of the ranch, then Jeff will give you a short presentation on compositional technique and how to work with models.
  • The remainder of the afternoon will be spent photographing various activities around the ranch, including the evening stampede of horses as they are let out to feed.Kitty Howard

Days Two through Four

  • The days will be packed with activity from before sunrise until after sundown. You'll have a chance to photograph the morning horse round up, wranglers grooming and saddling the horses and other typical ranch scenes.
  • Jeff will take you into the desert several times to photograph horses at Movie Pass, or horseback riders traveling through the desert in the shadow of Panther Peak. There will also be daily action in the rodeo arena, where you can learn how to photograph cattle penning and barrel racing.
  • Kitty HowardJeff will conduct two photo critiques. The first will be on Day Two, so you can get feedback on how you're doing early in the workshop and have the chance to work together on any issues. The second will be on Day Four, so you can see your progress and still have a chance to work out any trouble spots.
  • One sunset shoot will take place on the other side of the mountains, at the Lazy K Bar Ranch. The cacti here have a little different look, and will be a prime backdrop as we photograph a horse drive down the dusty hill.
  • On the evening of Day Four you'll enjoy a small rodeo put on by the ranch, and have a chance to capture all the action.

Day Five

  • This morning gives yoLinda Franklinu one more chance to photograph a horse drive. You'll also have some free time to wander around the ranch to take any last photos that catch your eye.
  • The workshop ends after lunch.
