with Gary Ladd
November 11 - 15, 2008
Cost: $2,595
Lake Powell, with its awesome red rock towers and brilliant blue-green water, offers us a bountiful feast of photographic opportunities. Its broad bays provide expansive views of water, sky and desert, while slivers of water twist into picturesque side canyons. In off-season months this lake - known to so many water skiers, swimmers and boaters - is empty and becomes a largely undisturbed and silent wilderness. With houseboats serving as base camp, we will have easy access to sites within Padre Bay, Face Canyon and Labyrinth Canyon. Join us, and be immersed in this spectacular environment.
TENTATIVE ITINERARY
Day One
- The workshop begins in the morning as we board our houseboats to begin our Lake Powell adventure.
- With his expertise and knowledge of current lake conditions, Gary will guide us to outstanding locations for great light.
- Most meals will be aboard the houseboats, with a few picnics in scenic coves likely.
Days Two through Four
- Gary will direct the houseboats each day to take us to new, outstanding locations on Padre Bay. He intends to reveal to you the incredible narrows of Labyrinth Canyon, the cobblestone island near Padres Butte, the rolling slickrock terrain surrounding Cookie Jar Butte, the bedrock pavement of Dominguez Butte, the photogenic crossbedding patterns of Weathering Pit Ridge, and more!
Day Five
- After five full days on the lake we will return to Page in the evening, where rooms are ready for us at a local hotel. The workshop ends after a final meal together in town.
