PHOTO WORKSHOP -  Grand Canyon Photoshop Seminar

with Steve Burger
April 25 - 28, 2008
Cost: $1,425

This class is useful for both novice and advanced Photoshop users, though we ask that students have some basic computer experience to facilitate instruction during lab time.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY

Please be aware that shooting locations stated in this itinerary may change. Each day we will determine which locations are best based on lighting conditions, in the hopes of giving you the best opportunities possible.

Day One

  • We'll depart from Phoenix at 8am. Please be at our departure point by 7:30am to load gear into the bus.
  • We'll make our way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, where we'll have lunch followed by an introductory presentation on “Processing Raw Files.”
  • Our sunset shoot will be at one of the canyon's amazing overlooks. Bring a graduated neutral-density filter to alleviate the contrast between the brightly illuminated sky and the deep shadows.
  • For those interested in extra practice, the computer lab will be open until 10pm tonight. Steve and your escorts will be on hand to help you hone your images.

Day Two

  • Morning finds us at a South Rim overlook to photograph early light angling into the Grand Canyon. Each of the canyon's overlooks has a slightly different view of the canyon, some framing formations called Isis or Vishnu Temple, others revealing fomations like The Battleship or Wotan's Throne. We'll visit several of these overlooks in the course of this workshop.
  • After breakfast, we’ll spend the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon learning about “Image Adjustments” and “Photoshop Workflow” through short presentations and hands-on lab work.
  • For sunset, we may go to the Desert View overlook to photograph the Watchtower as sunset's reddish glow is reflected off its surface, and as the fading light bounces off canyon cliffs above the Colorado River.
  • There will be an image critique of student work tonight, and for those interested in extra practice the lab will again be open until 10pm.

Day Three

  • Sunrise will find us at another of the canyon overlooks, such as Yavapai or Mather Point.
  • The afternoon will be spent in the lab learning and practicing “Layer Masks and Gradients” and “Prepping Images for Printing.”
  • We'll enjoy a farewell dinner together this evening, and the lab will again be open until 10pm.

Day Four

  • We'll have one more sunrise opportunity, and after breakfast our final lab will focus on final Photoshop Tips & Tricks, one more critique, and a Question and Answer session.
  • At about 1pm we'll start our journey back to Phoenix, arriving in the late afternoon to early evening. We recommend that out of state visitors return home the following day.
