Few other places on earth have as large a concentration of natural arches as is found on the Colorado Plateau. Arches National Park alone has over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, as well as picturesque spires, balanced rocks and colossal towers made of distinctive red Entrada sandstone.
The dynamic forces of wind, water and geologic upheaval have created a landscape of extraordinary beauty and have left for us a plethora of photogenic treasures. We intend to visit as many of them as possible during visits to Arches National Park, Canyonlands, and Dead Horse Point State Park, capturing the textures, contrasts, and surprising formations of this high desert region.
This exciting workshop should be a treat for those who love the arches, spires, balanced rocks and other formations shaped by the dynamic forces of erosion and weathering. Chuck Lawsen will guide you to his favorite locations within each park, and you’ll come away with dramatic images and a newfound reverence for this sandstone paradise.
SPECIAL
CONSIDERATIONS
The area is dry with little potable water available. Be sure
to carry plenty of water and most importantly DRINK IT. The hikes, especially to Delicate Arch, can be moderate to strenuous, so please discuss your fitness level with us before registering so we can make sure this is the right workshop for you! The workshop will be quite
physically demanding in terms of carrying packs up steep inclines
on what can be very slippery rocks. People should have very
good hiking boots with good soles to minimize slips and falls. Rooms are blocked on the evenings of October 11 and 16
in Grand Junction but are not included in the cost of the workshop.
