TENTATIVE ITINERARY
Please be aware that shooting locations stated in this itinerary may change. Each day we will determine which locations are best based on lighting conditions, in the hopes of giving you the best opportunities possible.

Day One

  • We'll meet at noon for lunch at the ranch. Our volunteer trip leaders will help arrange your transportation from the Tucson Airport.
  • After lunch, we'll get a brief tour of the ranch, then Jeff will give you a short presentation on compositional technique and how to photograph and work with people. Jeff will also conduct the first of five photo critiques, so be sure to bring examples of your work for review.
  • The remainder of the afternoon will be spent photographing various activities around the ranch, including the evening stampede of horses as they are let out to feed and the sun sets over the Sonoran Desert.

  • The days will be packed with activity from before sunrise until after sundown. You'll have a chance to photograph the morning horse round up, wranglers grooming and saddling the horses and other typical ranch scenes.
  • Jeff will take you into the desert to photograph horses at Movie Pass, or horseback riders traveling through the desert in the shadow of Panther Peak. There will also be action in the rodeo arena, where you can learn how to photograph cattle penning and barrel racing.
  • © Charlotte WhitakerOn the evening of Day Four you'll enjoy a small rodeo staged by the ranch, and have a chance to capture all the action.
  • Jeff will conduct multiple photo critiques. Images will be reviewed so you can get feedback on how you're doing early in the workshop and have the opportunity to work together on any issues. You'll get to see your progress and still have a chance to work out any trouble spots.
  • Also included will be an opportunity to photograph costumed charros performing lariat tricks on horseback at a separate location.

Day Five

  • This morning gives you one more chance to photograph a horse drive.
You'll also have some free time to wander around the ranch to take any last photos that catch your eye.
  • Jeff will conduct a final photo critique before lunch.
  • The workshop ends after lunch.
