The workshop departs from and returns to Phoenix, AZ. Departure is at 8:00 a.m. and we will be loading gear at 7:30 a.m. If you are from out of town we recommend you book lodging for the night before the workshop begins to ensure you are on time for departure and also the night the workshop ends as you will probably return late in the afternoon or early evening and we would not want you to miss your flight home if you are delayed for any reason.
TENTATIVE ITINERARY
Please be aware that shooting locations stated in this itinerary may change. Each day we will determine which locations are best based on lighting conditions, in the hopes of giving you the best opportunities possible.
Day One
- Lunch will be in Cameron, where Navajo tacos are the specialty
of the house.
- We'll check into Gouldings Lodge before a sunset shoot
of the "Mittens" inside Monument Valley.
- In the evening we'll enjoy a slide presentation by our
photographer.
Day Two
Today you'll enjoy a full-day private tour of Monument Valley.
You'll be up to photograph before sunrise, and locations
throughout the day will include Sand Springs, Ear of the
Wind, Sun's Eye, Teardrop Arch and many others. Opportunities
to photograph Navajo women weaving and driving sheep are
possible, as is photographing iconic images at John Ford's Point.
Day Three
- Our half-day tour of Mystery Valley will likely include
stops at Pancake Rocks, Halfmoon and Honeymoon Arches.
- We'll travel to Canyon de Chelly for check-in, a short
rest and an evening shoot along the magnificent overlooks
above Tseyi Wash and Spider Rock.
- In the evening we'll conduct a slide critique.
Day Four
- Today will be spent touring Canyons de Chelly and del
Muerto, stopping at such well-known locations as Antelope
House Ruin and White House Ruin, as well as at Standing
Cow, Mosaic Rock, First Ruin, Spider Rock and other picturesque locations.
Day Five
- After a sunrise shoot at Tseyi overlook, we'll check out
and may travel to Hubbell's Trading Post in Ganado for a brief
tour. Your instructor may choose to photograph at Coalmine Canyon instead, depending on conditions.
The workshop is expected to return to Phoenix by approximately 8:00 pm. Again we recommend out of state visitors book lodging for this night and return home the following day so you do not risk missing your flight in case we are delayed for any reason.
