September
8 - 12, 2010

Cost: $2,195
Register by:
July 8, 2010

This workshop is sold out. Please contact our office to be placed on a waiting list.

The workshop departs from and returns to Phoenix, AZ. Departure is at 8:00 a.m. and we will be loading gear at 7:30 a.m. If you are from out of town we recommend you book lodging for the night before the workshop begins to ensure you are on time for departure and also the night the workshop ends as you will probably return late in the afternoon or early evening and we would not want you to miss your flight home if you are delayed for any reason.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY
Please be aware that shooting locations stated in this itinerary may change. Each day we will determine which locations are best based on lighting conditions, in the hopes of giving you the best opportunities possible.

Day One

  • On the drive to Chinle we'll make a stop for lunch at the La Posada in Winslow.
  • Once we arrive, we'll have a chance to take a few portraits of Navajo models in the late afternoon light.

  • We'll rise early to capture early morning sweet light at one of LeRoy's favorite locations.
  • Following breakfast we'll enjoy a full day tour of Canyons de Chelly and del Muerto. We'll have some models along to pose in front of the ruins and in other traditional Navajo settings.
  • If there's time in the evening we'll photograph a local blacksmith in the light-streaked interiors and exteriors of a local barn.

Day Three

  • In the early morning we may spend time in the rolling badlands of the Chinle Basin, photographing its striated sandstone formations.
  • We'll leave for Window Rock and the climax weekend of the Navajo Nation Fair. After checking into our hotel we'll travel to the fairgrounds to get our first taste of this extraordinary experience.

  • We'll spend all day today at the Navajo Nation Fair, enjoying the many colorful activities, and taking moving portraits of Navajo subjects that LeRoy will help us find. Rodeo riders, wooly riders, jingle dancers and more will give us unlimited opportunities to craft great portraits.

Day Five

  • We'll return to the Fair in the morning for a few more opportunities before heading back to Phoenix.

The workshop is expected to return to Phoenix by approximately 8:00 pm. Again we recommend out of state visitors book lodging for this night and return home the following day so you do not risk missing your flight in case we are delayed for any reason.
