PHOTO WORKSHOP - Havasupai

with David Elms

April 18 - 22, 2005
Cost: $2,125

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE CURRENTLY SET UP TO CAMP IN THE HAVASU CAMPGROUND, NEAR HAVASU FALLS, USING AN OUTFITTER.  GROUP DYNAMICS AND CIRCUMSTANCES MAY CHANGE TO WHERE WE WILL STAY AT THE SUPAI LODGE INSTEAD.  WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED.

Day One

  • We'll leave Arizona Highways promptly at 7am.
  • We will make a stop at the Grand Canyon Caverns Inn to pick up a few participants and sack lunches
  • We'll arrive at Hualapai Hilltop by 12:30pm.
  • After we fly down to the village of Supai, we'll board our horses and travel to the campground for dinner and a sunset shoot if possible. Camp will be along picturesque Havasu Creek, under shady cottonwoods. Some may choose to sleep fully outdoors but we'll also have spacious tents available. Hammocks, hot showers, sleeping bags and more are also provided.

Day Two

  • We concentrate on Havasu Falls today. We'll shoot first light on cliffs over the falls, then shoot through the day as the light changes. We'll return to the campground for meals, as well as a midday teaching session by the photographer.
  • Later in the day, we'll explore the Grotto at Navajo Falls, a tiny piece of Hawaii in a desert canyon.

Day Three

  • Today will be spent at Mooney Falls for those who wish to make the trek. The trail descends through the cliff face to the base of the falls, and persons with vertigo are encouraged to photograph from the top of the falls. Everyone else will be just fine with our assistance. Great views from above and below!

Day Four

  • Morning will likely find us back at the main portion of Navajo Falls to shoot first light on the cliffs.
  • The remainder of the day will be spent back at Havasu Falls, along the creek and other scenic spots.

Day Five

  • We'll have an early breakfast and morning shoot.
  • We'll ride to Supai, have lunch at the Café and helicopter back out of the canyon at approximately noon. We'll hopefully be back in Phoenix by 8pm.
Mark Larson
